Role: Architectural Design

The Yanggok Grain Market is called to adapt to changing times. The relocation project requires a plan to systematize its core functions while accommodating future needs. To address this, we propose Yanggok Grain Market 4.0, based on a modular unit system that allows flexible vertical and horizontal expansion. Vertical growth can provide courtyard-type startup offices, while horizontal expansion can support food exhibitions, community areas, and auxiliary facilities. This rational system not only fulfills the market’s primary role but also creates a space that connects wholesalers, citizens, and future demands.

The overall structure comprises 40 modular units, ranging from a single pallet module to second-floor offices for intermediate wholesalers. These efficient and economical units optimize volumes to overcome site constraints, providing generous unloading and working spaces. A wide entry yard at the front ensures smooth accessibility for users.

The optimized layout secures a minimum 12-meter turning radius for 25-ton trucks, waiting zones adjacent to unloading areas and pocket yards, and a 3.7-meter forklift passage for right-angle loading. Together, these features establish an efficient distribution system while creating a safe and comfortable environment for both wholesalers and general users.
