[New cultural strata of Seoul]
The new Sejong Center for Performing Arts is a civic jewel in the heart of Seoul that bridges the boundaries between art, nature, and the city. By inserting a new cultural space between the edge of the park and the Han River, the performance center reconnects the park to the river by extending it through the site. By layering these urban, landscape, water, and cultural layers on the site, the project proposes an opportunistic integration of park, river, and cultural space to create an unparalleled civic experience.
The project's design is inspired by the natural beauty of the Han River and the surrounding park. The two performance halls are clad in metal panels that reflect light, signaling an iconic form nestled within the park landscape.
