Metacognition Museum of Art / MMoA
Metacognition is a higher-order thinking skill, conscious awareness of awareness, and thoughts about thoughts. It provides critical insight by allowing one to think through layers of thought. Rather than dividing the boundaries between the real, virtual, and artistic worldviews, the MMoA interconnects each artistβs world, the curatorβs insight, and visitors' thinking into a continuous spatial frame. Here, visitors will be immersed in the art world or become rational observers who trigger new meanings of art history. As visitors descend, they move from the higher dimension to the lower dimension; in the higher dimension, the fractal-diorama of the lower dimension self-repeats as architectural elements, i.e., floors and columns. This museum's collection exhibits and studies art, with curators helming efforts to create countless new worlds. Also, audiences can be the main agents of infinitely expanding curation as quasi-curators. The exhibitions are archived and displayed in the fractal storage. Meanwhile, NPCs in the infinite museum help visitors engross themselves. Through this, visitors can deepen their metacognition by entering the worldviews of the artist, the curator, and even the museum.
Entrance (1)
Visitors enter the museum through powerful transitional experiences.
Lobby (2)
Surrounded by fractal dioramas, the lobby suggests the museum's metacognitive properties. From the reception area, one is led to the NFT marketplace, the auction house, and the large lobby in that order.
Β
Bar & Dancefloor (3)
Visitors dance on the floor, where the main exhibition hall is downscaled into a diorama, allowing them to consider the exhibition's meaning at a higher meta-level. Meanwhile, these areas provide a relaxing space for visitors to socialize and communicate with one another.Β Β
Main Exhibition Hall (4)
The role of a curator in the digital age is enhanced by breaking singular, rigid perspectives and rendering a fragmented topography with multiple artistic interpretations. As digital artworks pose no risk of permanent destruction, a curator can encourage active participation from visitors, allowing them to act as curators and deepen the interaction. This floor, with a minimal framework composed of space size, space arrangement, and multi-centrality, ensures a liberal interpretation.Β
Fractal Open Storage (5)
The storage has an infinite fractal structure. The artist's worlds, curators' exhibitions, and even the audience's curations are stored and exhibited in hyper cubes, thereby embracing limitless possibilities. The following are on display. 1) Superstudio: The space exhibits gigantic installations, which have been deemed impossible. 2) Douglas Coupland: The space can challenge the viewer to witness a virtual world in a fixed sequence, like a movie. 3) Oliver Laric: The space creates a virtual world by editing works and spaces that are meaningful in reality. 4) Funky Punks V2: Planar NFT works are positioned in a three-dimensional exhibition space.
